How I am Vegetarian

I'm not vegan, and not even completely strict as a vegetarian. When I prepare my own meals (which is most of the time), I make dishes with no meat (and that also means no fish or seafood). When someone else prepares food for me, I eat what they prepare. My friends know my preferences, and accomodate me without issue. When I'm eating out and find vegetarian options non-existent or unappealing, I will eat meat, opting for fish or seafood before poultry, and poultry before red meat.

I also love fish and seafood sushi, and will eat it sometimes as a matter of choice.

The upshot is that I have a serving of fish or seafood perhaps once a week, a serving of chicken or turkey once every few months, and beef or pork perhaps once a year.

I use cheese, but prefer to treat it as a flavoring rather than a main ingredient.

I sometimes have milk or other dair products, but rather infrequently.

I eat eggs, but I buy them from local growers (Farmer's Market) who treat their chickens humanely. They have different breeds that make different colored eggs, which is fun.

I'm sensitive to the fact that some people feel defensive or uncomfortable with vocal vegetarians, and I prefer to be low-key about my preferences. I don't care to come across as moralizing or superior, which I think is rude and also counterproductive. I think sharing food with others is an act of connection and communion, and calls me to be respectful of choices and customs that differ from my own.
