Plant List |
It's not always easy to acquire plants for the kind of breeding
program I'm pursuing. I've found that one must be vigilant and snatch
up suitable plants as they appear in the catalogs of iris specialists
or the plant and seed exchanges of iris societies. In addition, rock
garden / alpine nurseries and clubs can be an important source of
iris species. A word of caution, however: I have found some of the
alpine nurseries selling misnamed plants. The Iris pumila from
Arrowhead Alpines, as well as Iris hoogiana, I. pumila
(dark violet), and probably I. taurica from Beaver Creek
Greenhouses were all misnamed.

I'm also grateful to those who contributed seeds to the seed exchanges run by SIGNA, ASI, SRGC, BIS, and MIS. I've donated many seeds of Iris pumila as well as some Iris attica to the 2014 and 2015 SIGNA seed exchanges. The 2014 donations were all hand pollinated. Refer to this page for an illustrated description of each cross.
This page documents the plants I have obtained to date for my hybridizing program, as well as ones I'm still looking for. (It does not include irises I grow solely for their ornamental value in the garden.)
Note: Telperion Oasis is not a commercial garden; we do not have plants for sale. However, if you see something here that you have a special need for, feel free to contact me. We may be able to trade, or perhaps I can direct you to another source of the plant.
