A Simple
House Blessing Ritual
Marking a
new beginning and celebrating a new
home
For
a number of years, I have used this simple
ritual to bless a new home before or shortly after
moving in. The purpose of the ritual is
threefold: to clear away any energies or
spirit entities that may be lingering in the house
from previous inhabitants, to protect the space
against unwanted intrusions in the future, and to
create a loving, harmonious space in which to
live.
At
the very least, everyone who will be living in the
house should participate in the ritual. It can be
very nice to have friends and relatives participate
too, to add their own goodwill and energies to the
working. It can become a sort of Pagan
"housewarming party".

Starweaver's
look at upcoming full moons and dark moons and the
energies they have to offer for magic and
ritual.
Dark Moon in
Aquarius, February 6, 8:44 pm
Best
evening for ritual: Feburary 6
(Wednesday)
Theme:
Internalizing Your Ideals
The
Moon and Sun are tightly conjunct with a retrograde
Mercury on this Dark Moon night. It is time for
regaining contact with your sense of personal
calling and the values and ideals that shape your
relationship with the world. Turn these questions
inward, and focus more on your gut feelings . .

The
Spirit of Wolf
For
many years after taking up Pagan ways, I seldom
connected with animal energies, even though many of
my friends had totem animals or animal guides. Two
years ago, that changed. I was leading a tarot
card meditation and a wolf came to me and
befriended me..

Starweaver's
Gems
from Earth and Sky
Imbolc
2008 Issue
This time of
year, not the winter solstice, is actually the
deepest part of winter. The Earth and its weather
tarries behind the astronomical changes that mark
the seasons. In ancient times, this is when food
was scarcest and the cold was harshest. People many
times survived on little more than hope. Imbolc is
a celebration of that hope. The first stirrings of
distant spring come at this time: the sheep begin
to lactate, the buds swell on the branches, and
perhaps an early snowdrop or crocus pushes up
through the snow.
This issue
revisits Moon Magic, Rune Lore, Earth Powers, and
Sacred Space. Seasons of the Goddess / Seasons of
the God continues, as do the Imaginarium and the
cooking and gardening features.

Imbolc,
a Tale of Hope
When it seems she has
lost everything, the young girl snowdrop has an
unexpected visitor, and finds renewed
hope.
Mother
had died with the first cold breath of autumn. By
midwinter, father had joined her, his heart broken
and his will spent. Then the soldiers came to take
the house, and little Snowdrop walked out into the
cold gray evening, hungry and alone.
Those
first weeks, she went around to every home she
could find. Sometimes she would be allowed to spend
the night, sometimes she would be given food. But
as the winter grew darker, food became scarce, and
no one had anything to to spare for a wandering
child. "Go find your family," they would say.
Snowdrop had no answer.

Rune
Lore: Sowilo
Sowilo
(pronounced SOH-wee-loh) was used to
represent the s sound in runic writing in
all the Germanic languages. The name means Sun.
The Icelandic Rune Poem reads
Sun
is
shield of the clouds
and shining ray
and destroyer of ice.
In
the northern lands where the Germanic peoples
originally lived, the world was conceived as a
battleground between the elements of fire and ice.
Life came forth when the heat of the Sun's fire
melted the snows of winter and revealed the moist,
fertile earth beneath.

Pilfered
Wisdom
In the depth
of your hopes and desires lies your silent
knowledge of the beyond;
And like
seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams
of spring.
Trust the
dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to
eternity.
