As we move through Winter to Spring, the Moon and planets combine to create varied and subtle opportunities for self-understanding and growth. The firey, assertive energy of Aries is a recurring element throughout the season. We can use these Moons to come more fully into our personal identity and personal power.

Full Moon in Leo,
February 9, 7:49 am

Best evening for ritual: February 8 (Sunday)

Theme: Light my fire

This is an intense Moon, where our larger ideals become transformed into very personal, very immediate, and very active realities.

There is a strong sextile between Mars in Aquarius and Venus in Pisces, which could manifest as a strong surge of sexual energy, perhaps focused on someone sharing your vision or ideas, or as a sudden, intense attraction to a new activity or undertaking. Jupiter and the Sun are also in Aquarius, amplifying both the force and the relevance of the upwelling desires.

With the Moon in Leo, there can be a need to receive attention before one can return it. The energy of this Moon can be put to good use if you can find an open channel for reciprocal generosity and reciprocal appreciation. If you focus on a relationship where the flow is one-way, you'll likely be burned in this heat.

Affirmations for this Moon:

I revel in love and attraction.
I energize my desires.
A bright new light shines in my vision.
I am filled with living flame.

Dark Moon in Pisces,
February 24, 6:35 pm

Best evening for ritual: February 24 (Tuesday)

Theme: Pssions in Perspective

The Mars-Venus sextile from the last full Moon remains in force, and is now augmented by both Mercury and Jupiter, in close conjunction with Venus and Aquarius. The Sun and Moon are in Pisces now, so we are viewing this bonfire through a dark watery veil.

Although desires remain intense and focused, their relevance and endpoint may not be as clear as they were two weeks ago. It's time to return to the source and find a place for those passions in the larger picture of the cosmos and our role in it.

This may be an unsettling, confusing time, so ask the Moon for guidance through divination, and open yourself to receive the answer without preconditions.

Questions for this Moon:

What is the larger meaning in this moment's activities?
What is the source of the life that moves me?
What remains unchanged?
What is it like to step outside of time?

Full Moon in Virgo,
March 10, 8:38 pm

Best evening for ritual: March 10 (Tuesday)

Theme: Carve out your goals

The energy of this Moon is dominated by the close proximity of Saturn. Together in Virgo, the Moon and Saturn seek to crystallize our creative intentions, giving them focus and character.

Venus has lost touch with Mars, but now has a new sextile partner, Jupiter. They fuel our attraction for grand ideas and life-changing projects. The Sun in Pisces is unable to contribute any focusing or narrowing of these visions, but the passage of the Moon near Saturn tonight is an opportunity to tie things down.

(The actual time of the Saturn-Moon conjuction is 4:26 pm.)

Use the Full Moon tonight to select one or two things to focus on from out of the cornucopia of hopes, visions, and ideals. Find the symbolic center of your intentions and let it be your guide and frame for the coming month.

Affirmations for this Moon:

I can see the next step.
I take my goals in hand.
I know what to create this day.
Out of many, comes the one.

Dark Moon in Aries,
March 26, 10:06 am

Best evening for ritual: March 25 (Wednesday)

Theme: The Shape of the Mask

This Dark Moon finds a conjunction of the four innermost planets: Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Sun, in the sign of Aries, which is concerned with individual identity.

These innner planets are the ones that control the daily appearances of the persona: or emotions and thoughts, our basic repertoire for interacting with the world. Now that they are all together, we have an opportunity to understand the integrated nature of our usual face, the mask we wear each day.

Although the shape of our mask may not convey our deeper drives and concerns, it can still be very important, as it shows us how others see us.

Questions for this Moon:

What is the shape of my mask?
What habits do I use for dealing with the world?
What does the face in the mirror have to say to me?
If my life were made into a movie, who would play the lead?

Full Moon in Libra,
April 9, 7:56 am

Best evening for ritual: April 8 (Wednesday)

Theme: Expanding your relationships

This is a strange and delicate time for interpersonal relationships. Mars and Saturn are in opposition, stirring up issues of authority and rebellion, rules and freedoms.

This Moon, however, offers the prospect of broadening the definitions and re-inventing the understandings and roles we have with those closest to us, to build a new harmony.

The process requires an understanding of the complementary, reciprocal needs of self and other. Jupiter brings his Aquarian wisdom to the project with power and gusto: time to think outside the box!

Affirmations for this Moon:

My relationships continually recreate themselves.
We are more than you and I.
I can change my habits of sharing.
Collaboration inspires growth.

Dark Moon in Taurus,
April 24, 8:23 pm

Best evening for ritual: April 24 (Friday)

Theme: Honoring your needs

This Dark Moon finds Venus and Mars entering Aries in tandem. Mars is the leader now, coming into his own sign. This is an energy of self-assertion, but also attraction and acquisition. There is a strong sense of knowing what we want, and having the will to get it.

The Moon in Taurus filters this energy into matters of personal comfort and security. Our basic needs can emerge with new force: food, shelter, transportation, safety. This can be a time for changing your eating and exercise habits, for examining your income and expenses, or for revisioning or rediscovering your living space.

Ask your body what it needs tonight: what it needs to be healthy and comfortable, and also what it needs to be you.

Questions for this Moon:

What does my body say about my identity?
Am I at home in my home?
What possessions do I need to acquire or release?
What do I need to make my body sound and whole?

Full Moon in Scorpio
May 8, 9:01 pm

Best evening for ritual: May 8 (Friday)

Theme: Honoring your own depth

Scorpio Moons are about the contrast between physical security and emotional security. The Taurus Sun draws us into the sensual pleasures of ripening springtime, the comforts of the nest, and the acquisition of the beautiful. But the Scorpio Moon is not content with these outward delights; it seeks powerful feelings, feelings it can hold, keep close, and digest until it is satisfied.

Jupiter and Saturn are each helping, gently and in their own way, to mediate this contrast. Jupiter reminds us of the realm of ideas, which offers subtleties beyond the purely physical and can help us understand our emotional needs. Saturn provides the practical, goal-oriented focus he has been sharing with us this last year or so.

There is a promise here that creative thought and pragmatic discipline can educate and soften those emotional needs that come from deep within us. This is a time to take something you deeply desire, perhaps something you keep hidden, and honor it by bringing it to light and working toward it.

Affirmations for this Moon:

I am more than I reveal.
I have unused powers.
I have courage to follow my heart into an unknown future.
I know and welcome my fears.
